Monica A. B. Murphy | President and CEO
Since co-founding the company in 1986, Ms. Murphy has been instrumental in growing Athena from an R&D-focused start-up to commercialization of Athena’s semiconductor IP product line. Ms. Murphy has extensive and varied experience in business development, management, technology licensing, sales, and Government contracting. Prior to joining Athena, Ms. Murphy was the Contracts and Grants Administrator for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida.
Jonathon D. Mellott, Ph.D. | Chief Technology Officer
Since joining the company in 1997, Jon has been the inventor and chief developer of Athena's technology and is instrumental in Athena’s business development activities in security markets. Jon is the chief inventor of Athena’s patented arithmetic technologies, and previously served as Director of ASIC Technologies for Athena. Jon is highly recognized and respected in his field and has published extensively, including a textbook on DSP, refereed journal articles, and conference papers.
Pat Rugg | Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Pat joined Athena in 2000 to launch Athena's IP Licensing business. Today Pat leads Athena's strategic sales and partnering efforts across all markets, especially Aerospace & Defense where Athena has become a leader in advanced cryptographic technology solutions for the most challenging applications. Prior to Athena, Pat served as a Senior Account Manager and Applications Engineer at Synopsys, Inc., the leading provider of the complex integrated circuit (IC) design tools. Pat started his career at Harris Corp. as an ASIC design engineer, working on avionics solutions for programs including the AH-66 Comanche helicopter and the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF), which later went on to production as the F-22 Raptor. Pat graduated magna cum laude with an engineering degree from the University of Central Florida.
Stuart R. Audley | Vice President of Engineering
Stuart leads a visionary team of engineers in creating and designing Athena's cutting-edge products. As Vice President of Engineering, he manages research and development of products – from conception to delivery. His technical areas of expertise include advanced side channel attack countermeasures, elliptic curve cryptography, hardware-software integration and digital signal processing. Stuart is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Oklahoma and earned his Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Florida. He joined Athena in 2006.
Bruce Newgard | Senior Director of Business Development
Bruce is focused on expanding Athena’s business in the Aerospace & Defense market and major semiconductor accounts. Prior to joining Athena, Bruce was at Cryptography Research Inc. (Division of Rambus) where he led efforts to expand CRI’s business in the A&D markets. Prior to CRI, he was a 23 year veteran of Xilinx, Inc. where he was Director, Product Planning for Segment Marketing. In this role he was responsible for the planning of all products for Aerospace & Defense, Automotive, Broadcast & Consumer, and the Industrial, Scientific and Medical markets. Earlier positions at Xilinx include Principal Architect for the Security and Anti-Tamper markets, Director of Field Technical Resources, DSP Specialist, and Field Applications Engineer. Bruce holds a BSEE degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. His hobbies include road bicycling, flying, hiking, and car tuning.
Fredrick J. Taylor, Ph.D. | Founder, Chairman and Chief Scientist
Fred co-founded the company with Ms. Murphy in 1986. Fred was principal director of Athena's R&D efforts through 1996 and continues to be an active participant in all R&D activities. Fred is also Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering and Computer and Information Science Engineering at the University of Florida.
